Ong Tay & Partners • Singapore's Online Law Firm

Our Profile

Some Background Information:

Ong Tay & Partners first started in April 1990 as "Ong & Associates". Ong Ying Ping, the founding partner of Ong & Associates, is a passionate believer in his ideals and has the conviction to carry out whatever is necessary to overcome obstacles, especially in changing mindsets. This belief continues to be reflected in the practice.

The firm is located at a well restored pre-World War II shophouse along Circular Road, part of the Boat Quay Area which surrounds the Singapore River. The area is historically the centre of Singapore's commercial development and is still one of the hubs of Singapore's financial activities.

A striking feature about Ong Tay & Partners is that we thrive on working with other professional disciplines and expertise to provide innovative yet workable solutions. The character of our partners attest to that: Ong Ying Ping's desire to find that unique solution for clients' problems; and Susan Tay's interest in performing arts and the entertainment industry.

The firm has been a member of the Law Society of Singapore's LawHelp pro bono scheme for a number of years. We have a firm-wide pro bono policy that aims to give backing to the efforts of individuals to encourage pro bono work. Ong Tay & Partners give pro bono advice across the whole range of its sectors and services, including Property, Litigation, Employment, Intellectual Property and Corporate to name but a few.

Our lawyers also advise clients on their investments and joint ventures in South East Asia and China. For such matters, we have developed close working relationships with law firms in Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, China and Hong Kong.

Also of personal interest to the firm is Information Technology. Not only are our lawyers able to advise clients on IT related matters, we have from the very beginning implemented and are continuing to implement IT solutions to improve productivity and provide quality service to clients. From early adoptors of local area networks, of the Internet and recently, the office Extranet, Information Technology remains one of the top commitments of the law firm.

Future Directions:
Ong Tay & Partners firmly believe in a growing need to widen the scope of specialist training. For lawyers, this means greater exposure to commercial activities and technological advances, especially in the field of information technology. To constantly improve the legal services we provide our clients, we place great emphasis in ensuring that our staff and lawyers acquire the necessary skills to use IT tools like Email, the Internet, on-line information searching to various e-enabled government departments in Singapore and the recently launched Court Electronic Filing System. At present training is provided both in-house and with external consultants to implement and maximise the use of the Electronic Filing System for court documents.

Another area to which the firm is committed is the growing trend for businesses to be conducted across international boundaries. This should eventually involve more exchange of ideas and solutions between legal practitioners from different countries and jurisdictions.

The only limitation to the firm's scope of expansion lies in the need to balance the economies of scale against the personal touch with clients. To this end, Ong Tay & Partners seek not only to grow with clients but also to grow to a level suitable to meet its clients' needs.
