US Chief Justice William Rehnquist, a quiet and conservative judge, died Saturday evening, 3rd September 2005, after years battling cancer. He was 80.

1st September 2005 - Starting today, the 3rd Europe Asia Patent Information Conference (EAPIC) 2005, jointly organised by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and European Patent Office (EPO), takes place at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition until 2nd September 2005. Being the pinnacle event for the Patent professionals in the region, the event was officially opened by Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee.
IPOS Introduces e-Designs

With effect from 1 September 2005, IPOS will be adding a brand new e-service to its suite of e-services. eDesigns, a one-stop solution for all your online Registered Designs transactions and searches, provides users the convenience, flexibility and ease in the protection of designs in Singapore. eDesigns allows you to submit applications via eFiling, search the database via the eSearch, as well as to access and download Design journals without charge via eJournals.
Website Host Liable for Customers' Posts

In a summary judgment issued on 1 September 2005, the District Court of Singapore held that Jeyel Technologies, the hosts for sggirls.com, was liable to Perspectives Models for copyright infringement after pictures of two of its models were posted on the website. The ruling was a landmark decision that had far-reaching implications for other websites that allow users to post content such as pictures, ringtones and text.
Law Society's Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (CLAS) Revises Its Income Test Upwards

CLAS has reviewed its means test upwards from 1 September 2005. A single person with a net monthly income of $1,000 (previously $850), a married applicant with a net combined income of $1,300 (previously $1,050) and $160 for each dependant will qualify to apply for aid for offences covered by CLAS.

Australia to Extradite McCrea to Singapore

A British businessman accused of two murders faces a trial in Singapore after judges in Australia dismissed his appeal against extradition. Michael McCrea is accused of murdering his chauffeur, Kho Nai Guan, and the driver's girlfriend, Lan Ya Ming, in January 2002 following a dispute.

SGNIC Reduces Domain Name Prices & Makes Accreditation Framework More Robust

To boost competition in the '.sg' domain name registration market, the Singapore Network Information Centre (SGNIC) will implement a package of enhancements to its registrar accreditation and pricing frameworks. These enhancements will include the reduction of domain name prices for registrars and see a more robust accreditation framework implemented.
