International Bar Association Annual Conference 2007 Opens in Singapore

Lawyers and judges from 120 countries were in Singapore Monday, 14 Oct 2007, for the International Bar Association (IBA) annual conference. With 4,000 participants, the conference is the largest in the IBA's 60-year history.

Welcoming the delegates, Singapore's Law Society President Philip Jeyaretnam said that the city-state's small size made it keenly appreciative of the role of international law in tempering might, promoting justice and uniting lawyers across borders.

The week-long conference and networking event is focusing subjects such as the impact of terrorism on air travel, gaming law, arbitration, copyright law and money-laundering issues. Global corruption and child sex abuse are also on the agenda.
