Law Awareness Exhibition Launched
Posted on Saturday, September 01, 2007 - 06:00 PM

A greater awareness of the law among the people and lawyers willing to offer their services for free (or 'pro bono') to the needy are key to ensuring access to justice, said Law Society President Philip Jeyaretnam during the Law Awareness Project 2007 launch on 1 Sept 2007.

The launch of the Exhibition by Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong took place at VivoCity on Saturday. The two-day exhibition marks the 40th anniversary of the Law Society.

Besides exhibition panels, there are also talks to give more depth to issues like criminal law, problems of indebtedness and family law.

A key new initiative undertaken together with the North West and South East Community Development Councils is the running of free legal clinics to provide basic legal advice and information to needy Singaporeans.

These free legal clinics start this month and will run four nights a week.

The static exhibitions will also be moved to the various CDCs to allow even more members of the public to benefit from law awareness.
