Legal Aid Bureau Open To More
Posted on Monday, March 05, 2007 - 12:00 AM
It was announced in Parliament on Friday, 2 March 2007, that the qualifying income level for legal aid will be raised from nearly S$2,000 now to S$2,600 in the second half of 2007.
The Legal Aid Bureau gives legal aid in civil proceedings to those with limited means but applicants must first satisfy a means and merits test.
With the higher qualifying monthly income ceiling of S$2,600, more lower middle income earners will qualify for it.
There will also be more discretion to help borderline cases - such as those with mental or physical disabilities or those who have lost their jobs.
