Posted on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 - 10:57 AM
From Thursday, 1 January 2004, the Small Claims Tribunals (Regional North) in Ang Mo Kio will no longer operate. Hearings after that date will be heard in the Tribunal's headquarters at Apollo Centre.
A media release on 30 December 2003 from the Subrodinate Courts states:
SHIFTING OF THE SMALL CLAIMS TRIBUNALS [Regional North]
With effect from 1 January 2004 the Small Claims Tribunals [Regional North] will cease operations with its return from Ang Mo Kio to our Small Claims Tribunals [Headquarters] at #05-00 Apollo Centre, Havelock Road.
Any consultation or further consultation fixed after 31 December 2003 will be heard at the Small Claims Tribunals at #05-00 Apollo Centre, No. 2 Havelock Road, Singapore. The bringing back of the Small Claims Tribunals [Regional North] to the Small Claims Tribunals [Headquarters] is in line with the consolidation of the Tribunals' resources to better serve its users. The move, as with the earlier return of the Small Claims Tribunals [Regional East], is timely and appropriate.
Since 1996, the Subordinate Courts have made significant improvements to enhance accessibility to its users. These include lodgement of claims by fax and electronic filing, hearing of claims via video conferencing, admission of claims by telephone, a tele response enquiry system and interactive website.
In terms of physical infrastructure, with the completion of the new North-East Line, Clarke Quay station is now just minutes from the doorsteps of the Small Claims Tribunals at Apollo Centre. With the above enhancements, physical accessibility is no longer an impediment.
Accordingly, for greater cost and administrative effectiveness, and to enhance security, the management of SCT cases will be centralised. We are confident that this consolidation will enable us to better harness our resources to provide an even higher level of service to the public.
