Racist Remarks Bloggers Gets Jail Term
Posted on Friday, October 07, 2005 - 12:00 AM

Two of the three bloggers charged under the Sedition Act for remarks made on the Internet received jail sentences.

One was jailed one month and the other jailed one day and fined S$5,000.00 by the Singapore District Court.

In passing sentences, it was reported that Senior District Judge Richard Magnus said the two had crossed the red line by wantonly breaching the basic ground rules. He said passing a deterrent sentence was necessary so that such offending acts are tackled early and contained. The judge also said that young Singaporeans may have short memories that race and religion are sensitive issues.
